About

Citizens for Responsible Government is a grass-roots, non-partisan    community discussion group.

Through quality information, research and respectful debate, we seek to evaluate and take action on local issues.

Our goal is to promote effective, responsible government decisions for the good of the local community.

Our History:  In 2009, a group of individuals felt local officials were circumventing any input from the public as they discussed spring training in Sarasota and how to best utilize Ed Smith Stadium after the Cincinnati Reds re-located.

Our group organized to call attention to the fact that:

  • Our governments decisions lacked due diligence.
  • Our state Sunshine law was violated
  • Our local constitution was ignored.

Some people believe Sarasota Citizens is a group whose main focus is on baseball.  This is not true.  The issues surrounding spring training in Sarasota is what brought our group together.   We now continue as a local watchdog group with a goal of holding our elected officials accountable.

What makes Citizens for Responsible Government unique?

We are a cross-section of the community.  Because of this diversity, different ideas, insights, and streams of thought are brought into our conversations.

What is the nature of our conversations and discussions?

Each individual is given the opportunity to share their concerns.  Before we act on any issue, we seek quality information and then we decide how best to act upon that information.

Many topics are sensitive and we respect the fact that individuals may be concerned about coming forward.
